Giving your web site its annual check-up
We came across two interesting articles about what makes web sites good (and bad) in the context of providing value over time - and what developers can do to keep existing sites up-to-date and long-lasting.
DevLounge recently published its 'QUICK' test for any existing site. They outline the five key questions every web site owner should ask themselves. These guidelines, though somewhat meandering in their presentation, are a good read for a down and dirty look at solid design and coding practices.
Another fun and informative article on what makes a web site's design C-R-A-P was recently penned by multi-blog contributor, and still young, Mike Rundle. This article also brings into stark relief the common mis-steps made at even the most basic design levels. But his discussion of avoiding these mistakes and instilling solid foundations for any web design are valuable, even to experienced designers.
